Overview

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is seeking a qualified and experienced candidate to fill the role of National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI). Job Requirements

General Eligibility

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be a fit and proper person with high levels of integrity and experience.
  • Will undergo a security screening investigation as per Section 2A of the National Strategic Intelligence Act, 1994 (Act 39 of 1994).

Educational Qualifications

  • A recognized degree or equivalent qualification in one or more of the following fields:
    • Policing/Police Science
    • Police Management
    • Criminal Law
    • Forensic Investigation
    • Criminology
    • Management/Public Management/Administration
  • Any other related relevant qualifications will also be considered.

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of seven years of senior management experience.
  • Proven leadership and strategic management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • The criminal justice system and its operations.
    • Corporate governance principles.
    • Strategic capability and leadership.
    • People management and financial skills (including knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)).
    • Strong analytical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

The National Head of DPCI will be responsible for overseeing the functioning and operations of the Directorate, ensuring its effectiveness in combating priority crimes. Key duties include:

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee and manage the functions of the DPCI as per Section 17D of the South African Police Service Act, 1995.
  • Appoint and manage staff within the DPCI.
  • Ensure compliance with the Constitution of the Republic and all relevant legislation.

Financial & Strategic Planning

  • Prepare budget estimates and submit them to the National Commissioner for inclusion in the overall SAPS budget.
  • Control and manage the DPCI’s financial resources as allocated by Parliament.
  • Represent the DPCI in Parliament regarding financial and operational matters.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide strategic direction at both national and provincial levels.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with government departments and institutions to enhance the DPCI’s effectiveness.
